Obama wants the government to pay for healthcare… except for our soldiers
This is quite a piece of hypocrisy here.
The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.
“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”
Mr. Obama wants private insurers to assume healthcare costs for veterans wounded in combat (nevermind that we owe it to our veterans to provide treatments for injuries received in service to our country.) But isn’t this the same person who is telling us that the only way to fix our healthcare system is to nationalize it and institute government-provided healthcare to everyone? Wouldn’t that make this a step backward in his grand plans for socialized medicine?
Here’s an even better question: If Obama is instituting this as a cost-cutting measure because caring for our wounded soldiers is too expensive for the government to assume, how on earth does he think the government will ever be able to afford to extend health insurance to every man, woman, and child in America?
UPDATE:
Looks like some of his fellow Democrats find this idea pretty distasteful disgraceful .
